Beneblog: Technology Meets Society

More and more of my time is spent around both raising money and raising awareness of how much more could be done with technology to increase social impact. The documentation projects of our partners in Uganda, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe have yielded so far six high-quality publications or reports about violations against LGBTI individuals in their communities. My personal goal is to channel the aspirations of the technology community to do more social good.

A high school English teacher in Zimbabwe, whose name is Betty Makoni , began hearing stories from her students after school, that they had been raped. The children are ages 6-16, and they're making huge strides by leading a national movement against child rape in Zimbabwe. The little girls are part of a culture, the Shona culture in Zimbabwe, as maybe you know, uses poetry. There are no men in Zimbabwe who are immune to these girls' attention.
