Why Are So Many Participatory Experiences Focused on Teens?

Over the past year, I've noticed a strange trend in the calls I receive about upcoming participatory museum projects: the majority of them are being planned for teen audiences. Teens are developmentally focused on social identity-building and may feel more compelled to share their voices and express themselves than others than other visitors.

Content Comfort: Bodyworlds and Other Exhibits with Guts

According to Wikipedia , 20 million people have viewed a Bodyworlds exhibition. Put visitors' voices front and center. The book Visitor Voices features several museum professionals who argued that making talk-backs a focus of exhibitions allowed them to take on topics that were otherwise perceived as too controversial for the museum.
