Trans*H4ck is based in San Francisco, but has held events in Boston, Chicago, Oakland, Las Vegas, and more. One of the projects this organization is working on is called Connect 4 Life , a mobile phone program for LGBT homeless youth. LGBT MD was showcased at the most recent Caravan Studios Social Good Apps Breakfast.

The primary need, obviously, in our community, West Oakland, is a lack of access to healthy and affordable foods. We do a lot of work with teens in the summertime. It's not just for West Oakland; it's for young people throughout the Bay Area. We have a program called, "Collards and Commerce."

Nola is as old as the Center she works for, thirty, and over the past two years, she has become an expert on sexually exploited minors in Oakland and has watched as the population grows. When I asked her why teenage prostitution is so prevalent in Oakland, she said, "Because they can do it here. It can't happen fast enough."
