That's a great question and it's very true. And mind you, they weren't all women who wanted to be journalists. If your angle is using this training as an outlet for local empowerment and development, then you very much want to bring in mentorship. Or, you have to grow to a demand. So, we started this program. Then, there are some chapters who start for the express purpose of finding other like-minded women, and then the connections go out from there. The essence of Dining for Women is connection, education, and self-empowerment. We had a group that went to Kenya to visit BOMA Fund , and we went to Uganda to visit the BeadforLife program.

Alli: Interesting question, like what is the road that gets us anywhere, I think they're always somewhat circuitous and unplanned. This last fall we produce a CD called Eye of the Storm which has been an amazing project, just the creativity and the generosity of the artists who participated on this CD still blows my mind.

You can see the ripples kind of spreading out, but you don't know whether one ripple caused a tadpole to swim a different direction, you don't know whether a bird flew away because the ripples made it change its mind, you don't know whether a flower that might not have grown in that place now is growing in that place.
