The greatest thing that I came away with is that the United States' and the European notions of what African history is all about, are so simplified. It is a much more complex and nuanced history.

Many of them do really meet our basic criteria of being women-led, of reflecting the work of a group of women, rather than just one or two individuals, and of really tackling critical human rights challenges and societal challenges in which women are playing key roles.
