Given the economy and its impact on nonprofits and fundraising , it got me thinking that making charitable giving a habit beyond the holidays is a good thing. Ask people to donate to a cause instead of gifts. For my 50th birthday, I held a 50th Birthday Card Photo Remix Contest on flickr and donated $50 the winner's favorite charity.

So for this post, I'd like to share 5 fundraising trends that we saw emerging in 2009 related to fundraising and social media and that will most definitely continue to have impact in 2010. Last year, TweetsGiving , raised $11,000 to build a classroom in Tanzania using Twitter to spread messages of thanks and opportunities to donate.
