But donating money to a charity, even a small amount (or in-kind items ) can certainly help with part of the need and raise awareness in others. For my 50th birthday, I held a 50th Birthday Card Photo Remix Contest on flickr and donated $50 the winner's favorite charity. And, yes they did !

Last year, TweetsGiving , raised $11,000 to build a classroom in Tanzania using Twitter to spread messages of thanks and opportunities to donate. The March of Dimes community rallied to raise money in Maddie's memory, unleashing a groundswell of support and sympathy expressions. . More than $550,000 was raised last March. .
