Putting this best practice into action, in 2019—two years after Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico—the Amgen Foundation awarded $257,500 to the University of Puerto Rico for rebuilding efforts. . Funding community organizing efforts can activate and engage residents to change those systems. .

Notably, the group debated the tension between short-term fixes and long-term systemic change. With many incredible ideas on the table, they committed to moving forward with two community-driven approaches to combat hunger: A Hunger Action Plan to activate our Salesforce ecosystem around long-term systemic changes to fight hunger.
