We set up tracking with hashtags and keyword searches. Set up Reddit, Digg, and other social news aggregators. Celebrate big donations or interesting blogs. We could have build a dashboard for statistics (donations, reddit ranking, retweet count, page views, etc.) We also used free services like Google Groups and Clicky.
