Putting on my technical hat, I pointed out that the technical advances needed to make synthetic speech a reasonable alternative to human narration were years away and that gave author’s plenty of time to price these conditions into their negotiations with publishers. These seems to be an important part of international copyright law.

Nonprofits, faith-based organizations, libraries, and networks such as the NetSquared Local should be leading this movement as they are already committed to social good. We should also pause and note t he tech sector’s troubling tendency to turn inward while adopting the language of the public square and the commons.
