The success 2-1-1 garnered in the United States opened services in Toronto, Canada in 2002. 2-1-1 is confidential and helps people across North America find the local resources they need. More than 40% of the 16,235,348 callers had basic human service needs for housing, utilities, food, clothing, personal and household goods. Requests for health and mental health services increased to 15% of all calls. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to help implement and sustain 2-1-1 nationwide.

No longer able to gather folks together for a shared meal, they pivoted to a Cook-and-Collect takeaway service to continue providing hot, nutritious meals created by volunteer teams. Foodcycle worked with the team at HandsOn Connect to launch their virtual check-in and chat service, where volunteers call guests for a “weekly natter”.
