Today I want to look at two ways to promote philanthropy that are too-little used by the lion’s share of charities: Current tax incentives. The charitable deduction encourages Americans to give more to charity than they otherwise would. or older could gift no more than $100,000 annually from an IRA to charity, tax-free.

In addition to being super active in her San Francisco nonprofit community, she also does a lot, including teaching a CFRE class. Nearly 70% of people make gifts to charity during their lifetimes but only 6% leave a bequest. That’s the number one reason people don’t give to charity period. Why is that?
