On Tuesday, I reviewed Elaine Gurian’s essay, Choosing Among the Options , on museum archetypes and self-definition. I’m thinking of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, which is trying to be a museum for people, but is also a national and collection-based place. Some art people would say it’s not a museum since it’s not real stuff.
