An example of this is The Portland Art Museum’s partnership with the faculty and students in Portland State University’s Art and Social Practice Department for their annual Shine a Light program. We scaffold levels of participatory experiences at events that are intergenerational, multidisciplinary and appeal to different types of learners.

Who Counts? Grappling with Attendance as a Proxy for Impact

Or students who visit at some point and go on to careers in science and technology. These sparks grew into sustained lifelong learning for at least 400 people, who got involved in local technology hobbyist projects, who pursued careers in science and technology, and helped us facilitate learning experiences as volunteers at the museum.
