In 2005, a visit to Right to Play in Sierra Leone with skateboarding icon Tony Hawk changed my life. It wasn’t long after their civil war, and the program was working with child combatants, using sports to teach new skills. Throughout my rugby career, sport was about trying our best to win each game we played.

Many of them do really meet our basic criteria of being women-led, of reflecting the work of a group of women, rather than just one or two individuals, and of really tackling critical human rights challenges and societal challenges in which women are playing key roles. I think the biggest challenge for us is trying to make hard decisions.
