Jim Shemaria from Grace Ministries International walked in to Interconnection in Seattle and asked for a 20-station computer lab that he could fit in his luggage and take with him on the plane to a school in Africa. Jim walked out of there with four refurbished laptops preloaded with Windows Multipoint Server and 16 NComputing thin clients.

It's not our first time advocating for charities and libraries in the hallowed halls of the U.S. TechSoup Global's mission is to do whatever we can to provide the IT resources and knowledge that charities, NGOs, and libraries need to operate at their full potential. Paul Hawkin, in his book, Natural Capitalism , finds that the volume of material that goes into manufacturing a laptop is 4,000 to 1.

Each year the International Computer Refurbishers Summit awards a lifetime achievement award. Actually the biggest need was for laptop bags to serve as suitcases for refugees. Their volunteers already do trainings in the libraries. It was not an easy road for Nancy. Nancy Jo recalls that it was a mess.

We have served more than 12,300 nonprofits and libraries across all 50 states, and we estimate that we have have saved organizations somewhere in the neighborhood of $4.5

Candice has a masters degree in library and information science and is Transition Projects’ first formal IT person. Aside from some of them being used by our staff for internal organization functionality, some of them are used by our program partners. The public library also utilizes the lab to provide a computer training class.
