David Barnard has completed six of these grueling races: The Kalahari Desert in Botswana and South Africa (its name is derived from a Tswana word meaning "the great thirst"). " He also uses these ultramarathons as an opportunity to raise awareness.

After meeting her at the Global Engagement Summer last spring, I knew I wanted to grab her for an interview before she became too famous. He did his degree in NGO Management, and will be graduating this coming June. The first opportunity that I had to go back was to work in a refugee camp in Botswana. Completely random.
