Dodd served in the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic from 1966 to 1968, and then joined the U.S. In 1974, he was the first former Peace Corps volunteer to be elected to the Senate. Kennedy's inaugural address on January 20, 1961 when he said, "ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country."
