In 2020, multiple platform companies, including Uber, Lyft, Instacart, and Postmates, spent over $205 million to pass Proposition 22 in California , a law that classifies platform workers as independent contractors, not employees. although this cooperative fizzled due to the lack of a contract with hospitals for workers.
