David Barnard has completed six of these grueling races: The Kalahari Desert in Botswana and South Africa (its name is derived from a Tswana word meaning "the great thirst"). His first race was dedicated to raising money for the Southern African NGO Network (SANGONeT). The Sahara Desert in Egypt (the hottest desert on earth).
