I was in high school, I was 17 and my first trip to Africa was to Kenya with my family, just on a picture safari. The first opportunity that I had to go back was to work in a refugee camp in Botswana. Cross-posted from BlogHer. It wasn't something I woke up thinking I was going to do either. Mainly it was luck.
