Slides: DC's Innovative Data Catalog
Our Web Executive Seminar last month featured a terrific case study by District of Columbia CTO Vivek Kundra on the DC Data Catalog -- an archive of over 200 data feeds. Under Kundra's leadership, the District is using simple technologies to become, arguably, one of the most transparent metropolitan governments in the nation.

Live from Transparency Camp '09 in DC
I had a great time yesterday at Transparency Camp '09 in DC - kudos to Peter Corbett , and Gabriela Schneider and Clay Johnson and others at Sunlight Foundation , as well as others for catalyzing it. There were folks there from NYC, west coast, and elsewhere, but about 2/3 were locals from DC. There really are a lot of amazing people working on web technology, strategy and policy in the DC area.

Back in D.C.
I'm back in D.C. after a week working with our old friends at the Omaha/Council Bluffs YMCA. Here are two other D.C. non-profit pundits you'll want to add to your reading list: Jillaine Smith's blog, At the Intersection , focuses on organizational development: leadership, strategic planning, communication. At the same time she is deeply aware of the role technology plays in the growth of any organization these days.

Progressives Move back to DC
Interesting note in the shift that is in the pipeline among many foundaitons to move the game back to DC. Many foundations shifted the organizing and capacity to the states during the Bush years. Now there is a HOPE that the progressives can go on the march in DC and fix many of the things we have been blocked on for 8 years. The result will be an increased push of resources back inside the beltway to move policy.

Congratulations Julie Chapman and NPower Greater DC!
You know we like to shower our NTEN members with awards and brag about their leadership in the nonprofit technology community. We also get choked up when we hear our members are being recognized by the wider nonprofit and social advocacy communities.
That's why I'm very happy to congratulate Julie Chapman , Executive Director of NPower, Greater DC Region , who was honored earlier this month by the Eugene and Agnes E. Meyer Foundation with the 2008 Meyer Foundation Exponent Award .

Quickie Event for Folks in DC Today (Feb 27)
AAM is sponsoring an "Emerging Museum Professionals" happy hour tonight at Saint-Ex (1847 14th Street NW at U Street) from 6-8pm. I don't know how they identify "emerging" (was it when I got out of the shower?) but they say "all are welcome."
