In San Francisco, datasf.org aggregates raw data from over 140 city departments, making it available to any member of the public, for any reason. Since transparency is only one leg of the stool, San Francisco also sponsored an app development contest to get people involved in using the data for the public good. I’m so excited to announce the launch of Thrivability: A Collaborative Sketch – a new book curated by Jean Russell with a collection of over 60 essays crafting a topography for thriving.  I have the great honor to be included in this collection and take such pride in sharing it with all of you!

The San Francisco ABC News reporter/anchor Teresa Garcia came out and interviewed Kevin Jones of GoodCap, Tim Freundlich of Calvert and yours truly. Just spotted a nice video piece on the SoCap conference that features Benetech as one of the new crop of socially responsible businesses . What was incredible about the Social Capital Markets conference was that a month before the conference, Kevin was worried about getting the 350 attendees he had planned for, since he had only 200-250 signed up.

Five us from Forum One are traveling to San Francisco April 26-28 for the 2009 Nonprofit Technology Conference . This Day of Service , Sunday, April 26: Jo, Andrew, Kurt, and Sophie will help install a wireless network at a San Francisco low-income housing project. This is my fifth visit to this conference, and it gets more valuable each year. Nearly 1,500 of the smartest, innovative, and passionate nonprofit technolology practitioners are gathering to exchange ideas, share success, promote products, and have fun.
