After working on over 400 nonprofit email recruitment campaigns, and helping clients plan successful recruitment strategies, I’ve realized that most nonprofits don''t send nearly enough standalone fundraising appeals. In short, more good emails = more revenue. Email marketing is mainly a numbers game.

Our strategy: We want to send new non-donor contacts a series of 3 short emails. Using email templates and workflow rules, this is super easy to set up in Salesforce.

Last Monday, November 19, TechSoup learned that it was one of the organizations affected by the Convio/GetActive break-in, in which hackers stole email addresses and passwords of subscribers to various nonprofit newsletters. Within a matter of hours, TechSoup contacted the 3,000 subscribers whose passwords may have been stolen.

Contacts are linked to donations solely through contact roles. With contacts only linked to opportunities (donations) through contact roles, rather than the Salesforce-standard Accounts, we’re missing out on many of Salesforce’s best features that won’t work with contact roles. We can move later.
