Subjects to Change is an unusual museum program in that it explicitly focuses on empowering teens as community leaders.

It is what it sounds like: a book of original sheet music, beautifully designed and complemented with artwork and text. Beck''s project is unusual because he deliberately resurrected a mostly-defunct participatory platform: sheet music for popular songs. Sheet music is a beautiful analogy for this.

We said yes, and they have now participated in several events, offering a unique mix of traditional tea ceremony, koto music, and bedazzled plastic microphones (see bottom left of photograph). To me, this is an example of how the aggregation of participatory practices fundamentally changes the role that an organization has in its community.
