I am a pretty good problem solver…when it’s someone else’s problem. When it’s my problem, I tend to be like a scene from Airplane. Luckily, Erik was the one who brought the problem to my attention, and he stuck with me until the site was restored. This was caused by a temporary problem on our end.

The short story is that he signed up for Google Apps and registered his domain at the same time. All well and good until the domain came up for renewal, and he had serious problems getting it renewed. His problem would have been avoided if he simply registered his own domain. But we’re talking maybe 30 minutes.

The problem was that the code was pure Microsoft: crap. Full of unnecessary tags and other junk that caused all sorts of problems. Ecto: This was my favorite editor for a long time. It hit me a couple of times. The problem with MarsEdit is its lack of a WYSIWYG or rich text editor. It’s just gone.

The problem is that things change. They have a hosted version , but at a minimum of $20/month it's more than I want to spend now compared to a one-time software license purchase. To make finding this info easier, I started building wiki pages for documenting how we at C3 do what we do. Took forever.

I've only been using it for a short time, but at this point I can say that I never want to touch a Google Apps domain without it again. Google Apps can be incredibly intuitive and maddening at the same time. As an administrator, we can of course do it for them without an extra tool.

Get Users to Grant Administrator Access Ask your users to visit Setup -> My Personal Information -> Grant Administrator Access and put in a date some time in the future that you don't have to worry about it for a few years. The one problem I haven’t been able to solve in my dual-Mac life is my iPhone. Sure, I can charge my phone, but I have to be careful not to let iTunes sync, because it insists on only syncing to one iTunes Library at a time. Not to mention all the Google , Salesforce and Box I can eat in the cloud. Maybe, but not ideal.

She never had much interest in email, but does communicate with classmates from time to time on gaming social networks that are kid-appropriate. When she's home or on the weekends, I have no problem with her using it for entertainment. She also has fine motor issues. She can write, but it's barely legible.

After reading reviews and getting opinions from friends on social media, as well as time spent just playing with different phones in the AT&T store, I decided on the Samsung Infuse 4G. 3 Gmail accounts, no problem. So many hacks and tweaks, so little time. The screen is beautiful and large. Same with Settings.

With minimal Apex or managed packages, I can change anything I need to at any time. I spend a lot of time in Excel working around the reporting I can’t do in Salesforce. Solves a lot of the problems that are inherent to nonprofits on Salesforce in an elegant way. Time will tell if these issues will get worked out.

As of right now, the site has 258,711 users and counting, with thousands online at the same time. If you have a blog you can easily connect it to Ravelry so your posts appear on your profile in real time. that solves a problem that no one had. TechCrunch didn’t take it seriously. Condescending attitude aside, they should.

This button works one address at-a-time, and there’s a bulk tool to update existing addresses. And that’s the problem…it’s just Box.net inside of Salesforce. There are no options to specifically work with the file and the opportunity/contact at the same time. Click the button and viola! Corrected address.

For example, I blogged about a problem with Gmail rendering back on June 19th. Was it a known problem? Most of the time, that’s good enough. Can’t check email and you run to Twitter search to confirm that others are having the same problem. No way to find out. But an OS is different.

That little window of "what if" gave me time to read about Chrome OS and I quickly came to the realization that although I would gladly take a computer freely delivered on my doorstep, I'm not that disappointed. It's my default browser on all my Macs and has been for quite some time. I love Google stuff.

Yes, it was time consuming, but not nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. I ended up using just under 7 billable hours of consulting support time. By the time I was importing real data for the final time, I knew it would all fall into place and it did. Major time saver. So grateful.

So for 2010 I think it's time to move back to a desktop solution. The idea is to deal with it once on collection, then not think about it until it's time to actually do it. Both have the same limitation in that the applications must only be open on one machine at a time. Simple sorting isn't enough. But which one?

At this time, I have one regular @ gmail.com account that I use for my personal email, as well as any Google service that isn't in Google Apps (Reader, AdWords, Voice, Maps, etc.) For the most part, browsers have no problem maintaining separate email sessions for each Google Apps account.
