I live in Google applications (Gmail, Google Reader, Calendar, etc.) I've been using it as my default on my MacBook and iMac for quite some time now. Every time Firefox or Safari comes out with a new bell or whistle, I try it for a few minutes and then go running back to Chrome. so it's almost a no-brainer for that reason alone.

I still use Gmail and Google Voice. Google is putting all their attention in to Google+ these days, but truth is if that disappeared tomorrow I would shrug and move on. I’ve already been burned by Android. The nonprofit synagogue I volunteer for uses Google Apps. I’m questioning my choices and considering alternatives.

Work email/calendar/tasks is on an Exchange server, personal email is on Gmail. Is the iPad at the point that it can completely replace a laptop that is primarily used for communication, light work and entertainment? I’m going to find out. I backup data to iCloud. I long gave up on iTunes for podcasts and now love Instacast.

In Gmail, I set the new domain as my default sending address. For my email address, I added judisohn.com as a domain in Google Apps, along with all the necessary MX entries on my MediaTemple hosted domain. Now any email address to my @momathome.com email will automatically work for @judisohn.com.

Badge shows the message, making it easy to delete/archive messages without going to full Gmail interface. Google Apps friendly. I don't have to keep an email tab open all the time anymore! Only glitch is that it appears to be using UTC time zone with no option to match the time stamp to my clock.

It took a while, but I finally have a template that seems to be working well for us: I’ve tested the template in Outlook (2003 and 2007), Gmail, AOL, Yahoo and Apple Mail and it looks just like the screen shot above, or close enough. By a very wide margin.

Yes, the iPad has its own iTunes store and Mom can manage her email and contacts in the iPad without syncing because she uses Gmail. Yet the iPad has to be synced to a computer for content. But then how would she back it up? If an iPad isn't being synced to a computer and it gets lost, it gets corrupted or gets dropped and you're out of luck.

This article in Gmail help is seriously lame, Google. It should give me the option to disable YouTube uploading, filter videos, make me approve any buddies on Google Talk, auto bcc's me on outgoing messages, etc. You can do better than that. Any other suggestions for giving a young teen an iPad?

3 Gmail accounts, no problem. But in a fun way that only someone who finds these things fun can appreciate. Overall Strengths: As expected, everything Google is easy to configure and beautifully handled. Switching between them is a pleasure compared to on the iPhone. Calendars & contacts were synced in what felt like seconds.

Kind of like if Ning , Google Talk , Gmail , Twitter and Facebook got smooshed together into a single open source environment. Gmail focused on simplicity first (great spam filtering, super fast search, conversation grouping) and then along came Labs years later to make it all interesting and wiz-bang.

For example, I blogged about a problem with Gmail rendering back on June 19th. When you search for your issue among the posts, you typically find nothing but posts from others with the same issue but no solutions. And I was tired of how often the integration with Gmail stopped working (not RTM's fault that Google keeps their code a moving target, but still). If I'm on a Gmail message, a link to the message is automatically included. Last year I bounced back and forth between Remember the Milk and Google's built-in task management.

Folks seem to be happy that Google is finally rolling out the ability to have multiple Gmail accounts in the same browser. So I can be in my browser of choice and have a separate Gmail tab for each email address I check, each logged in and working fine. it was harder to manage working this way on the iPhone.
