I had an exciting and busy week of teaching public workshops, facilitating informal staff workshops, and meetings at the Embassy mostly on the topic of Networked Nonprofit, digital strategy, and leading on social media. Before I left for Finland, I read Timothy Walker’s Teach Like Finland: 33 Simple Strategies for Joyful Classrooms.

The trainer needs to understand the database, present technical concepts clearly and without jargon, teach at the students' level, and be incredibly patient. Also train the team that will be making decisions about the system's configuration at the start of the implementation project. Train them again just before going live.

I’ve spent a lot of time trying to understand how the feng shui of a classroom impacts learning. Circles without tables, just chairs helps promote group discussion. Having a large enough space so people can move around and self-organize into small groups also promotes learning.

This week I was honored to teach a Happy Healthy Nonprofit Workshop at the 1440 Multiversity Nonprofit Service Week. This past week they opened up the campus to nonprofits and I was lucky enough to be part of the faculty to teach a workshop. The photo was my classroom. They also teach yoga and meditation classes in this room.

On a recentish trip to the American Museum of Natural History, I watched a group of unrelated people learn about the parts of a T Rex by putting together a puzzle. Teach is a big one.

It has a population of about 6,000 people. Jay said that they support 30 PC in offices, classroom, and a school computer lab. In the school there are two PCs in each classroom, and the 12-station computer lab is used mostly for research. It strives to teach students responsibility for others. It also has a large Cargill.

In a classroom setting, this is most clearly present in projects in which group work is assigned. Those days are now extraordinarily a thing of the past.
