Side Trip is an immersive environment full of interactive experiences that let visitors share their own stories of the 1960s, make their own rock posters, and explore the music and vibe of the time. The primary interactive activity is one in which visitors can make their own rock posters. It is an incredible museum experience.

95% of our piano users play music, beautifully. The activity is clear and well-scaffolded. This is the participatory museum, played out loud. This week, it was a little guy , attended by a stuffed toy on the piano bench. It's rare that someone sits down to bang out noise. The outcome is open-ended and visitor-driven.

I am recommending the transcript of Clay Shirky's speech about Gin, Television, and Social Surplus , in which he argues that the next twenty years will be marked by people's slow, incremental, and astoundingly impactful awakening from being passive consumers (of TV) to partly active content creators. But one page! I'm not sure I succeeded.

This seems a little ungenerous to museums; while institutions may bestow more love upon wealthy, elderly donors than the general visiting public, museums have actively courted mass audiences for years. There were thousands of people in the park for plays, free music, and beautiful scenery. And none of the museums in the park was open.
