Elgg is a very cool community-building and e-learning tool – it’s got the social networking combined with features like forums, etc. And further, there is an amazing integration of Elgg with Mediawiki.

In my tests it was buggy (some parts of it just didn’t work), and the interface was still a bit crude. And, boy did I just fail the Richard Stallman test!) We offer special NTEN rates for any memebers out there. Unfortunately, I don’t qualify for those rates. It does, apparently, do audio via VOIP.

Other interesting findings include: For email newsletters, open rates and click-through rates fell slightly (1-2%) in 2008, though the changes were not strictly statistically significant. Email lists are continuing to grow, though the rate of growth was 17% in 2008. Average gift size across organizations was $71 in 2008.

The Bandwagon Effect In 2008, we launched a "single-sign on" method using Facebook Connect that allows our visitors to use their Facebook credentials to log in. Use A/B testing methods to test a single variant in your workflow. Test small, incremental changes instead of overhauling everything. Sometimes we've led trends.
