As bad as these corrupt nonprofits are, they're not the biggest problem facing the social sector, according to Berger. The problem isn't even dwindling funding or the need to minimize spending on overhead. The biggest problem, as he sees it, is that most nonprofits can't prove their work has any real impact.

Grant funding is great, but often comes with requirements such as financial tracking of the award, measuring the program, reporting to the funder, and more — so look before you leap ! However, it is a problem being addressed by other folks. But I don’t hear the more important question: “How do I know the grant is right for me?”

All of my work these days is focused on designing and delivering effective training for nonprofits -primarily on the topics of social media, strategy, networks, and measurement. I was able to rearrange an area for viewing presentations slides and have enough space for participants to move around for full group exercises.
