The team also hopes to incentivize organizations to share knowledge and give beneficiaries a direct voice. I remember leaving for Vegas and making a promise to Joe that I would submit a mashup to the 2009 Change the Web Challenge. The mashup was a map showing where people were volunteering in near-real-time.

Someone should give Bob Dylan's publicist a raise. He or she has created one of the most innovative, enjoyable mashups out of a cultural icon. What's a mashup? For example, you can click on "Midtown" on the map, go to Columbus between 89th and 90th, and find a gem like this: Chick: I have to run in here and get more ChapStick.

Like the freedom that RSS gives to end users in terms of getting the data that you want in your hands, to read when and how you want it, APIs give programmers (and, at times, end users) the freedom to get data from Web 2.0 One of the best examples of the use of APIs are Google Map mashups.

In addition, the Museum has taken those tips and created a mashup with the YELP api. Give points/badges to people for specific types of check-in’s (e.g. If I were an organization like the American Heart Association I could come up with a way to give points to people for checking into locations that were “heart healthy”).

The way I see it, there are many directions that technology is aiding social change work: enabling data sharing, exchange and mapping. The best answer I can give (without spending the entire brainstorming, strategizing, and working in person) is that Facebook is a place to connect, and round up supporters. Good question.
