The HashTags site, a centralized directory of hashtags on Twitter, also offers a good definition: Hashtags are a community-driven convention for adding additional context and metadata to your tweets. In my initial analysis of mega list of 90 Foundations that Tweet , I did not look at hashtags. I think it takes more a unique tag.
