Just to be clear from the beginning of this guide, Whole Whale is not directly affiliated or funded by AmeriCorps (though there are alumni on our staff), but we ARE huge fans of the program. Are emails being sent? Focus on the types of work that will build the list of emails/followers the nonprofit has earlier in the year.

According to AmeriCorps, the national average volunteer retention rate is 65%. Here are a few ways to reward and recognize volunteers: Send thank you emails to volunteers after each shift. There are many reasons why a volunteer may stop giving their time. It is up to your organization to identify the cause and re-spark the passion.

For my required Nonprofit Leadership Alliance internship, I chose to serve for a second year as an AmeriCorps volunteer in the Public Allies Arizona program at the ASU Lodestar Center, returning to Public Allies five years after I had served with Native American Connections. I scheduled meetings with all who replied to go over details.
