The 1 st tool was MySpace back in 2007. The tools I am currently using are Facebook, two Twitter accounts (one for National messaging via @PanCAN and one specifically for advocacy efforts via @Advocate4PanCAN), YouTube, LinkedIn, MySpace and Delicious. Are you tracking Return on Investment (ROI), and how? I am tracking the ROI.

My guess would be either MySpace, YouTube, or Facebook Causes. I would say MySpace has dropped off the most for us. I should say I did recently hire a social media volunteer who helps me on a part-time basis. I’m a big believer in getting volunteers and interns to help be part of this growing space.

It was also my duty to organize four fundraising events each year and manage an average six volunteers in any given week. can produce significant ROI is a myth. Adding social media to that already packed job description just would not have been possible. It’s not the tools. Social media is not free!

Even when I wasn’t at home at my desk, I was on my iPhone updating Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc. The good news is that I have found using Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, etc. If your not getting this ROI, then you are not using the sites correctly and it’s time to get training. from working on the weekends.

One of the simplest ways to significantly increase your nonprofit’s return on investment (ROI) from using social media is to learn basic HTML. Buy some nice stationary ( preferably on recycled paper ) and send handwritten thank you notes to donors, volunteers, and even your most committed online activists. Learn basic HTML.

It was much more traffic than I would have ever thought possible, but thanks to the burgeoning “Nonprofit Organizations” communities that I had built on Facebook, Twitter and Myspace, launching a blog was much easier in 2009 than it was when I tried and failed in 2004.
