Attend webinars, get to know the movers & shakers through Facebook and Twitter. I love that I'm at the point in my career where I can pay it forward and help other nonprofit techies. You can get a lot out of NTEN without attending their annual conference, the NTC. Participate in an affinity group. But the NTC is different.

Chromed Bird and Facebook : Great for quick sneak peeks to the social networks. When I want to spend more time in Twitter, I'll log in to Hootsuite. I long gave up on desktop Twitter apps because they took up too much precious RAM. I tried Brizzly , which looks prettier, but it was slow and had more quirks.

I'm talking about those places that you can control (Vimeo, Twitter, wrappers, YouTube, etc.). I did it in order of least traffic to most, making the Twitter and Facebook changes last. Facebook was another matter entirely. So when the time came, I could make the switch in less than 5-10 minutes per site.

Established social sharing model (blogs, Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, etc.): But the concept completely turns on its ear how most everyday folks have used social media so far. I maintain that not only is it for the better, but that nonprofits that communicate well already had it figured out.

Way more folks subscribe to C3’s content via email as compared to Facebook, Twitter and RSS feeds combined. One of the things I have to do for my job at C3 on a regular basis is produce our monthly e-newsletter. Contrary to what the bloggers want you to believe, email is not dead. By a very wide margin.

Like I needed to be spending the time I should be relaxing in bed and enjoying time with my online friends instead resetting my Facebook password and cleaning up every single authorized application? So I quickly changed my Facebook password to another secure/unguessable combination of letters (thank you, as always, 1Password.you rock).

If you have a Twitter account you can easily connect it to Ravelry so you can target tweets for your Ravelry profile. Ravelry appears to be funding itself through in-site advertising, similar to Facebook. If you have a blog you can easily connect it to Ravelry so your posts appear on your profile in real time. Guess what? Lots of it.

Twitter , Evernote , Mint , Dropbox , Audible , Kindle (with link to Kindle Store, thankyouverymuch), Pandora , WordPress , TripIt , Box.net , etc. The Bank of America app is much easier to use and navigate on Android, and even the Facebook app is a nicer experience. Download, enter site credentials and pick up right where I left off.

Have you seen what’s happening with Facebook ?!? In the meantime, Facebook has become mainstream relevant. When I joined Facebook in mid-2007, there wasn’t a single person from my high school class on it that I could find. Heck, even my mother is on Facebook. What’s with the fake Facebook friends?

Kind of like if Ning , Google Talk , Gmail , Twitter and Facebook got smooshed together into a single open source environment. I think Facebook took off because by the time most “regular&# people joined, the party was already rolling. Facebook went real time and the experience suffered.

All you can do most of the time is either kvetch on Twitter or post to their help forums and wait for 50 other people to say "me too" until someone in-the-know comes along and addresses the issue. Or are you only meant to check Facebook, email and play simple games with this thing?
