As I spent the Thanksgiving weekend pondering gratitude, MySpace made the top of my list of things to be grateful for. If it were not for MySpace, my professional life no doubt would be much less fulfilling. And for that, I will be eternally grateful to MySpace and the “Nonprofit Organizations&# MySpace community.

They move with you to The Next Big Thing i.e., from MySpace to Facebook to Twitter to Foursquare. While it is definitely true these sites could be here today, and gone tomorrow, your supporters will indeed migrate with you on to The Next Big Thing. I was very reluctant to move over to Facebook. The community was red hot.

Facebook: facebook.com/thenatureconservancy. My guess would be either MySpace, YouTube, or Facebook Causes. We’re using all of the main social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, etc. Facebook and Flickr have been two of the most useful social media sites. Please summarize your ROI.

Facebook: facebook.com/nationalwildlife. Back in 2006 when I joined the organization we had a MySpace page with 25 friends. From there I signed us up for various Facebook groups and profiles and continued experimenting sites like Change.org and Care2. Are you tracking Return on Investment (ROI), and how?

At the time, nonprofits were primarily only using Myspace and YouTube. Though Facebook had gone public nine months previous, Facebook Groups were only just beginning to be used as community-building tools by nonprofits and Facebook Pages didn’t exist yet. Compile stats to share with executive staff. Get training.

One of the simplest ways to significantly increase your nonprofit’s return on investment (ROI) from using social media is to learn basic HTML. Facebook: facebook.com/womenforwomen. The first social networking tool the organization utilized was MySpace is 2007. Following that, Women for Women International moved on WordPress, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter throughout 2008-2010. Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and the Notes from the Field WordPress blog.
