It's rare that a participatory museum project is more than a one-shot affair. The museums developed careful rules about what could and couldn't be shot, and how participants could upload their images to Flickr for use by the project. It ended June 30 with 292 participants contributing 5,447 photographs.

This month brings three examples of museums hosting meetups for online communities: On 8.6.08, the Computer History Museum (Silicon Valley, CA) hosted a Yelp! They left and wrote over 100 positive reviews of the evening, 12 positive reviews of the museum, and shared over 300 photos of their revels on Flickr. meetup for Elite Yelp!

While there, I was lucky to get to experience a highly participatory exhibition that the MIA mounts once a decade: Foot in the Door. By limiting artworks by size alone, Foot in the Door is open to a huge range of content and media. The diversity of content promotes comfortable dialogue about preferences.
