I believe in the power of books to change the world. That is not a particularly radical belief among librarians, but I hope to make you believe even more in the power of books. Today, we are poised at a moment in time where we can transcend the limitations of past book technologies and bring the power of books to all humans.

We filed the following comments to the Copyright Office's request for comments on issues about access for people with print disabilities. The status quo is that people with print disabilities are experiencing a book famine. Everything that needs doing can be done by license voluntarily. And famines have consequences.

The Marrakesh Treaty was signed last year, and now the efforts are ramping up to ratify and implement the Treaty, with the goal of helping overcome the book famine faced by people with print disabilities. WIPO has a mandate from its member states, and is working to address the need to change laws and get more accessible books flowing.

Gerry was one of the earliest computer software attorneys, and even wrote one of the first books on the subject. I needed help with business negotiations and software licensing and Gerry jumped in teaching me everything I know about doing business. And stuck was the operative word: I stayed in that role for seven years.
