Classroom style with desks puts a barrier between the students and the instruction, especially when people are using laptops or tablets to take notes.

I would bring the laptop and plug into the phone line and do demos in small groups. And I had to tape flip chart paper over the windows so it would get dark enough to project the laptop to show the presentation. But, you can't teach the way you feel comfortable teaching all the time. ? This was circa 1997. What did I do?

Students get a minute to think about the question on their own and then answer it using a mobile device that sends their answers to Mazur’s laptop. It’s more fun to teach this way and more fun to learn this. This is important for both online and offline instructional delivery. That’s the theory at least.
