I received an embargoed press release in my email about Convio's Open Initiative. While I wouldn't know an API from Ape if it stood right in front of me beat its chest, but I have seen the results of open APIs in social media apps like Flickr. The most recent announcement is from Convio, which launched Convio Open. open API???

As a 10,000 footer, NTEN’s new Donor Management System Survey is of keen interest. In that trio was Organizer’s Database, the desktop open source DMS. Included in the bottom four are 3 properties of Blackbaud: Raiser’s Edge, eTapestry, and Kintera Sphere which was in dead last place.

Allan Benamer points out that Kintera is about to be delisted by NASDAQ. Speaking of the responses of the old guard, eTapestry, which was bought by Blackbaud last year, is opening up it’s API this week. So is it good news, when companies open APIs that don’t make it easy to really use? Time will tell. { Be Helpful.
