Google needs to stop treating support like it’s an add-on feature

Quietly, Google removed the very last remnant of human support for the free Google Groups. I sent out pleas for help on Twitter and Google+. Using social media to find someone who knows someone who may know a guy is not customer support. But if my blog vanished tomorrow I know I could get help directly from Automattic.

I hated watching our supporters eat the fins of other organization's supporters while they lobbied for votes for their favorites. Will those votes translate into viable support and advocate engagement later? Supporting nonprofit organizations that are working to make the world a better place isn't a Miss America contest.

That means many users are turning to it first, and the search giant doesn't have the kind of customer support that mobile-phone users are accustomed to. If Google is supporting the phone the way they support their online services, you couldn't pay me to buy a Nexus One. How are you supposed to ask for help?

Poster: Best iOS blog editor

Open in… support. Image support. Maybe this is enough to help me get my blogging mojo back. There's a preference in Poster which converts the Markdown shorthand to HTML before it hits WordPress. I like that. You can start new posts from other apps, or import from Dropbox. But those are minor nitpicks.
