As I spent the Thanksgiving weekend pondering gratitude, MySpace made the top of my list of things to be grateful for. If it were not for MySpace, my professional life no doubt would be much less fulfilling. And for that, I will be eternally grateful to MySpace and the “Nonprofit Organizations&# MySpace community.

They move with you to The Next Big Thing i.e., from MySpace to Facebook to Twitter to Foursquare. While it is definitely true these sites could be here today, and gone tomorrow, your supporters will indeed migrate with you on to The Next Big Thing. This is when the MySpace vs. Facebook debate began to rage in the blogoshphere.

My guess would be either MySpace, YouTube, or Facebook Causes. I would say MySpace has dropped off the most for us. Are you tracking Return on Investment (ROI), and how? Please summarize your ROI. Direct mail and e-newsletters are still the leaders. Yes, we definitely are.

Back in 2006 when I joined the organization we had a MySpace page with 25 friends. While the giants (Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Flickr and Youtube) are great for outreach and relationship-building, we’ve had surprising successes with StumbleUpon, LinkedIn, Plancast and other sites. Are you tracking Return on Investment (ROI), and how?

It was much more traffic than I would have ever thought possible, but thanks to the burgeoning “Nonprofit Organizations” communities that I had built on Facebook, Twitter and Myspace, launching a blog was much easier in 2009 than it was when I tried and failed in 2004. Definitely integrate your blog posts with your e-newsletter.

At the time, nonprofits were primarily only using Myspace and YouTube. There’s definitely a math to social media synergy, and those that start early have both time and math on their side. The media had made Myspace, and social networking in general, out to be dangerous, life-threatening even. Get training.
