The online protest event was organized by the DC area based advocacy nonprofit, Demand Progress. Apple is a major donor with a pledge of $100 million. As I suspected, privacy and security remain a very hot topic in NPTech and in the general tech zeitgeist. so more students will have good access to the Internet.
