Last week, I gave a talk about participatory museum practice for a group of university students at UCSC. Many teens love to perform for each other. First, teens often have incredibly tight social spheres. Second, teens today are incredibly aware of "stranger danger." They like to do and touch and make.

Looking closer, I saw that each seat had its own handwritten label, telling the story of the Philadelphia cultural institution from which it originated. Every other year, they convene TUPAC, a group of 35 outside advisors, including teens, college students, Temple University professors, artists, philanthropists, and community leaders.

Last weekend I went to a great house party/fundraiser for Art in Action camp , a 10-day cultural boot camp for budding teen activists. All afternoon the students remained in lockdown inside the school. Most of the participants are between the ages of 17-25, working class and youth of color. Pretty groovy, huh?

We invited a private art school to fill a very public wall with paintings made by students in response to the question, "How would you depict love?" We spent a long time prototyping this one.
