She did several things over the course of the tour to make it participatory, and she did so in a natural, delightful way. This immediately led to cross conversation. Instead she drew people personally into the stories again and again, asking us to compare our own and our ancestors' experiences to those she described.

Bonded groups are useful if you want to understand people's existing attitudes and impressions. If you are building something new and want people's ideas, go for bridging.

They turned Market Street into a playground, a performance hall, and a meeting place. A hexagonal ping pong table that invited six people (often strangers) to play together. While for me meandering was mostly pleasurable, if I were there with a particular goal or a group of people, I would have been stressed out. There was no agenda or angle in setting up the DCM, the idea was simply to create an awesome place for the community to share their stories. The DCM was a place that was part science experiment.
