Graduate student Maria Georgakarakou, who is blind, gave us a rave review for the Read2Go app which allows those with print disabilities to listen to books in the DAISY audio format. She predicted that the usability of Read2Go will encourage Bookshare members to read more books in the DAISY audio format.

Use Normal Language in Your Story A long, drawn-out, flat story with a bunch of numbers and statistics and jargon is not a good way to convey your message and your needs. If it’s a captioned/narrated video, the background music is very important. Just as in movie scores, the music can set the tone and enforce the message.

However, as the founder of the Bookshare online library, we have a great deal at stake in how the Treaty gets implemented. Plus, it will especially help countries with less-developed libraries and services for people with disabilities by making it easier to tap large collections (like Bookshare) in other countries. The print book doesn’t work for people who are blind, partially sighted, dyslexic, have physical limitations, people who haven’t learned to read, or people who can’t read the particular language of a specific book is written in. Jimmy and I spent an hour trading music together. We can do better! I had never heard of it.

But if you are using their language or really innovative elements, you should credit them. Creative stuff: Things unique to your organization including the ability to create art, music, poetry, dance, etc. Send a video or audio “thank you” through social media or email. Throw in beer and pizza and music and it can be fun.
