In terms of my own life, as I write in Loyal to the Sky , I grew up in apartheid South Africa. What does it mean to be the Chosen People whether you're the white population in South Africa, or, as a Jew, I was hearing from Hebrew school that we were the Chosen People. Essentially, I came to activism from compassion.
