In December 2013, drones from the NGO Direct Relief were put to work assessing damage and participating in search and rescue operations in the super typhoon Haiyan-stricken Philippines. In Africa, conservation drones are being used to locate rhinoceros poachers. Rescue workers on the ground then knew exactly where to go.
