They couldn’t solve the humanitarian crisis, but they could build a tool that could shine a light on human rights violations, bringing much-needed attention and support to developing emergencies.

In 2008, she asked for advice about raising money to go to Africa to help support the first community access television station opening in Ghana. Some of the tools needed to do this work are obvious: a camera, microphone, headphones, tripod, laptop, and maybe a light. At that time I made a blog and raised $2,000 using Chipin.

In 2008, I designed the Nonprofit and Social Media ROI Poetry Slam and last year was a panel on crowdsourcing that modeled crowdsourcing in the design and delivery.

I will never forget meeting Leymah Gbowee , the winner of the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize who led the women’s movement resulting in peace in Liberia.
